Thanksgiving

I Will Continue Giving Thanks!

Text: Colossians 3:15, "and be ye thankful."

Intro: Gratitude shapes our hearts, strengthens our faith, and glorifies God. It is essential for Christian growth. Here's why...

  1. I will be thankful because I have a CREATOR - His name is
ELOHIM! Gen. 1:1, "In the beginning God [Elohim] created the heavens and the earth." Elohim is plural, indicating that Moses included all three members of the Godhead. Cf. Ps. 100:3
  2. I will be thankful because I have a REDEEMER - His name is
JESUS! Eph. 1:7, "In Him [Jesus] we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins." To redeem is to pay a price for the freedom of what is purchased. According to Paul, the purchase price is the blood of Jesus (Acts 20:28).
  3. I will be thankful because I have a SUSTAINER - His name is
THEOS! Phil. 4:19, "And my God [theos] shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Cf. 2 Cor. 9:10. Our needs are met. Praise God (Psalm 37:25.).
  4. I will be thankful because I have a SHEPHERD - His name is
LORD! Psalm 23:1, "The Lord [Jehovah] is my shepherd I shall not want." David discussed how his relationship with the Lord had shaped and guided his life. Cf. Philippians 1:21.
  5. I will be thankful because I have a KING - His name is
CHRIST! Rev. 19:16, "And He [Christ] has on His robe and His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS." Christ is the great victor (vs. 11-15). He has overcome the world (John 16:33). Thank God for Christ; He is our Prophet, Priest, and King; He is all we need!

Conc: "Be ye thankful" is a Present Tense Verb. It means to keep on becoming thankful. It speaks of habitual and continuous action. We are instructed to grow in lasting gratitude. May we all cultivate and sustain the Attitude of Gratitude!
